From the Fringe in Edinburgh
August 17, 2006 at 10:50 AM
These are some of the highlighted shows I saw at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2006. Interestingly, blogging was a theme this year. There were so many offerings that had something to do with blogging as well - could not see them all.
Two Men Talking
Murray Nossell and Paul Browde are two school boy rivals who meet in South Africa in 1974. Thirty years later they meet again in New York. Two Men Talking is the culmination of their exercise in teaching themselves and others to tell their stories. Their project, Narativ, has the power to humanize and revitalize the way we look at society and ourselves through our own stories. This is a must see.* See their blog

Blogging
Kentisbeare Players
Three generations of British women with men at wars of different kinds experience communication of their men who each abandon them in a different way. All the men in their lives is played by the same actor. This really focuses attention on the women an their relationships, dependencies, forgiveness and love for the "man" in their lives. The only relation really to blogging is the way it is used as a medium of real time communication with someone at the front in Iraq; this contrasts letters from World War II.

Arturo Brachetti - from Italy
Brilliant Performance of the genre known as quick change artist. I never knew hand shadow puppets could be so entertaining. This is a must see. And seeing a show from inside the Spiegeltent is an experience as well.

Jane Godley's Blog - Live
Fifty-ish woman with an accent so thick I need to read her blog to understand a few of her jokes. Brilliant stand up comedy kept the audience laughing with stories of letters she has received from some of her scary blog readers as well as common sense of about fear and child rearing.

Brief History of Scotland - We Done Loads
Lip Theatre Company
This Stars Sean Connery's Voice as God. Don't expect anything serious as you learn how Scotland is the center of the world from creation to modern movie and TV farce. Given that this show was written and produced by students, I was quite impressed.
Disclosure:
I am friends with Murray Nossel who is the co-writer, co-producer and actor in Two Men Talking but my opinion is sincere.
