Cafe Du Monde and Polystrene: A Review

CafedumondeCafe Du Monde Menu
Cafe Du Monde  at 1039 Decatur in the French Quarter is a New Orleans icon but I don't ever remember it  being a nice place to hang out nor do I ever remember disliking it.  Of course, I'd never been there sober or during the day until today.

I ordered a large cafe au lait (half black coffee half milk), decided to skip the beignets (translation: french fried dough covered in powdered sugar) after last night's eating festival and too many Red Hots Candy from the free machine that the W Hotel cruelly put in my room. Evil Candy Machine The cafe au lait came in a polystrene cup.   Dow Chemical refers to the more commonly known Styrofoam as a "Global Success" but I don't need an old school New Orleans icon breakfast establishment serving it to me with my coffee.   You pretty much have to stop by this place for beignets once for your checklist but I do not recommend Cafe Du Monde as a nice cafe to sit and have breakfast outside sober.  There are so many wonderful alternatives within stumbling distance at any hour in the French Quarter.
